This project maximizes storage while allowing for transparency and ‘display’ of both belongings and materials. This kitchen nestles a washer/dryer unit into an island with pull out garbage, recycling bins and slideout step ladder that allows access to the cabinet storage above. Built entirely of recycled and reclaimed material, all of the cabinets and countertop are constructed of solid wood salvaged from New York buildings while the tile is recycled from various sources. The stove is restored from the 1950s and the sink is NYC salvage from the 1930s.
